Whether your aim is an active walking or cycling holiday, to explore the rich history of the local area or just quietly relax and read in front of the log burner, Peppercorn is the perfect cottage in the perfect location.
Cheriton
Seven miles to the east of the Cathedral city of Winchester, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Cheriton is a quintissentially english village centred around the beautiful chalk stream, The River Itchen. With a village shop, local pub and miles of walking from the front door we believe Peppercorn Cottage is the perfect holiday location. The award-winning Flower Pots is a local institution. With a brewery on-site it is famous for its beer which is also available as a take out or can be delivered! If you prefer champagne then Raimes Sparkling is within walking distance (handy if you have been to a tasting!) in the next door village of Tichborne. The cottage is less than 5 minutes drive from the pretty Georgian market town of Alresford and the National Trust property, Hinton Ampner House, which has beautiful gardens to explore. With the River Itchen running past the cottage you may see kingfishers and egrets during your stay and the area is popular with bird watchers.
The pretty market town of Alresford, voted best market town in the South East by Country Life, has a range of independent shops, a weekly street market, two small supermarkets, two butchers, a fishmonger, pubs, restaurants and excellent independent coffee shops and delicatessans. The majority of shops are found on the two main streets, West Street and Broad Street and are mixed in amongst the colour washed Georgian town houses. Alresford is well known for The Watercress Line steam railway, the annual Watercress Festival, Alresford Music Festival and The Grange Opera which is held just outside the town in the summer. Hampshire has over 70 gardens that regularly open as part of the National Garden Scheme with many of those close to ALresford.
Regularly appearing in lists of the best places to live in Britain (Sunday Times 2019), Winchester is one of the most vibrant and historic cities in the South of England. Centred around the stunning cathedral, which is one of the largest in Europe, Winchester is a maze of cobbled streets with museums, atmospheric pubs, interesting independent shops and incredible architecture. Winchester hosts one of the biggest farmers markets in England and one of the annual highlights is the famous Hat Fair in July when the city comes alive with street theatre, comedy, art and music. Hampshire has a growing reputation for local produce and Winchester has many excellent restaurants ranging from small independents to well known establishments such as The Ivy, Rick Stein and River Cottage.
